OUTDOOR TRIVIA
Radio Script by Mark Sakry

TITLE: Coatimundi

INTRO:
(SFX: CARNIVAL SOUNDS AND MUSIC)
ANNCR: (UP AND OUT AS BOG FROG SPEAKS)  Step right up, folks, and witness one of the greatest wonders of nature!  The animal behind this screen has the nose of a pig, the paws of a bear, and the tail of a racoon …
FROG: Psst! Lady's and gentlemen, this is BOG Frog.  It's really time for OUTDOOR TRIVIA with Dave Winkelman.

QUESTION:
DAVE: Don't you just love the carnival?  When I was youngster, I sure did.  I remember one time when the sideshow featured a strange exotic animal.  The carnival barker said it had the nose of a pig, the paws of a bear, and the tail of a racoon.  Can you imagine?  This is Dave Winkleman with an OUTOOR TRIVlA question—not about carnivals—but about a common desert mammal I once paid a whole quarter to see.  Would you like to know what it was?  Well, hey!—hang onto your quarter.  You can catch the side show free, right after this.

ANSWER:
DAVE: Welcome back to OUTDOOR TRIVIA.  Well, what desert mammal has the nose of a pig, the paws of a bear and the tail of a racoon?  It's actually a slightly larger relative of the racoon, the coatimundi.  The coati's large claws and long, flexible snout are used for feeding on its favorite foods, desert insects and plants.  And, hey—get this—coatis are gentle critters.  In the tropical Americas where they are commonly found, they're sometimes tamed as pets.  Isn't that wild?

CLOSING:
FROG: This is BOG Frog. Remember, every living critter—no matter how strange it might look—has a place on this planet like us … and that's not OUTDOOR TRIVIA.
